Formlabs Form 4BL

Formlabs Form 4BL

Large format for medical and dental.

The Form 4BL brings the speed of the Form 4B to a 4.6 times larger build volume. Large anatomical models, medical device prototypes or entire batches of dental models are produced in a single print job – usually the same day.

Think big, print fast

With a build volume of 35.3 × 19.6 × 35 cm, the Form 4BL prints complete spine and thorax models in one piece or fills the platform with dozens of parts. A life-size scoliosis model is finished in under 10 hours – on the Form 3BL it took over 50 hours.

Large parts the same day

Scoliosis model in 9 h 56 min instead of 50 h 18 min (Form 3BL), 32 aligner models in 14 minutes.

Biocompatible and sterilizable

BioMed series and dental resins for parts with patient contact, plus Open Material Mode for third-party resins.

Precise in large format

46 µm pixel size with anti-aliasing: 95 % of the surface lies within 50 µm of the CAD model.

Low cost per part

Dental models for under €1 each – the large platform significantly lowers the cost per part.

Two resin cartridges

Two cartridges and automated resin handling for long print jobs without refilling.

Reliable and monitored

Validated print settings, six sensor systems, an integrated camera and remote monitoring via Dashboard.

Medical

Large anatomical models in one piece

Hospitals and medical device companies print life-size models, sizers and prototypes without assembly – from concept study to final product.

  • Life-size spine, thorax and skull models
  • Patient-specific sizers and implant prototypes
  • Functional prototypes and single-use instruments
  • Biocompatible, sterilizable BioMed materials
  • Scoliosis model in under 10 hours

Dental

High-volume production for the dental lab

For high-volume labs: the Form 4BL prints up to 120 aligner models or 20 denture models per hour and significantly lowers the cost per model.

  • 32 aligner models in 14 minutes
  • 80 occlusal splints in 2 h 10 min
  • 28 restorative models in 2 h 48 min
  • Models for under €1 each
  • Integration with 3Shape, exocad, Medit and DSD

Accuracy in large format too

Measured with Precision Model Resin

Despite the large platform, accuracy stays consistent: 95 % of the surface lies within 50 µm and 99 % within 100 µm of the CAD model. Large parts fit the first time.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Form 4L and the Form 4BL?

The Form 4BL is the healthcare version of the Form 4L: it supports the biocompatible Formlabs materials and validated workflows for medical and dental, and it can be combined with the Medical or Dental Service Plan.

How large is the build volume of the Form 4BL?

35.3 × 19.6 × 35 cm, or 24.2 liters – 4.6 times as much as the Form 4B. This lets you print life-size anatomical models in one piece or a large number of small parts in a single job.

Which dental labs benefit from the Form 4BL?

High-volume labs, for example in aligner or prosthetics production. The Form 4BL prints up to 120 aligner models or 20 denture models per hour at a cost of under €1 per model.

Which biocompatible materials are available?

Among others BioMed Clear, BioMed Amber, BioMed Durable, BioMed White, BioMed Black and Surgical Guide Resin. Open Material Mode also lets you use third-party resins.

How much space does the Form 4BL need?

The printer measures 66.4 × 52.8 × 79.4 cm and weighs 58.5 kg. For post-processing large parts, we recommend Form Wash L and Form Cure L.

Form 4B or Form 4BL – which one is right for me?

The Form 4B is compact and ideal for practices, labs and hospitals. The Form 4BL is the choice for large anatomical models and high volumes.
